I now know what it’s like to be a church planter, going door to door, inviting people to be a part of the church.  In canvasing my neighborhood for men for a Bible Study at “The Brew” (a local coffee shop), I ran into all sorts of reactions.

Some interactions were rewarding!  I even had a young guy step out onto the front step and tell me that it sounded like something he needed!  Too bad he never came…

Others were not so great conversations; one guy said he was from another religion.  He told me to get off his property and slammed the door in my face.  I’m not sure what I said to set him off, but I got the point.  He wasn’t interested.  I thought the nativity scene on his porch was a good sign…guess not.

At another house a young girl came out to talk with me.  I told her about the men’s Bible study, and she said that her dad needed this and she’d mention it to him.  I’d love to have been a “fly on the wall” when she talked to him.

All I was looking for were a couple of men to get together with some other guys who had a desire to crack open the Bible and see what it says.  Finally, I found five men who desired to get together and study the Word!
