Sharing Jesus with Family

I’ll never forget a pointed conversation with my dad on this topic.  He had been suffering with COPD, blocked arteries in his heart and failing kidneys.  He had a “trifecta” going that didn’t look good.  Late that Saturday afternoon, the doctor had given the news to him that they couldn’t do anything.  My dad’s response?  “I guess it’s my time to die.”

I stopped by his hospital room early the next morning.  I had brought my NLT Bible with me and sat down to talk with him.  He asked, “Can you tell me what happens next?”  The Lord gave me the answer, “that’s easy Pop, 2 Corinthians 5.”  I quickly turned to Scripture (hoping I had the right one) and read to him about our earthly “tents” that are replaced by “Heavenly tents” when we get to Heaven.

At the end of reading the passage, he looked at me and said, “Ok, I’m all in!”  Here, I was the child speaking into my dad, instead of my dad speaking into to me.  We are called to be the “dads”, “moms” and “grandparents” to pour into them…which may come back as it did with me.  Don’t be surprised when this happens…
